That was one of the funniest Nerima yet...

In short, Yuuki Hiro-san was the voice of "Michael Jackson" and suddenly everything about the world of seiyuu made sense.

It opened with Ichirou (Morikubo Shoutarou-san) proclaiming his lust for Pandaikon, the show's mascot. If you haven't been following the show -- and I do believe that's everyone! -- Hideki loves Mako, Mako loves Ichirou, Ichirou loves the panda, the panda loves Yukika, and Yukika loves both the panda and Ichirou. I know that because this time her theme song included the line 「イチローさん パンツ何色?」.

Anyway, since it's a musical, "Michael Jackson" sung a number of songs, surrounded by various zombies and mummies (just like his music videos). And every line was punctuated by 'Aooo!', the famous Michael Jackson scream.

Michael was part of the sinister conspiracy and was trying to take over the daikon patch, so the Nerima Daikon Brothers went to Nabeshin. As usual, they sung the Rental Please song, but this time, Nabeshin had to take part because you need three people to sing it.

He gave them a pie. A blue pie. Because all men like pie.

The zombies attacked again, and Hideki hit Michael in the face with the blue pie. He screamed 'Ao!' and I just about died. Worst. Pun. Ever. I'm still giggling a little over it.

Well... I guess you had to be there. Please, please someone else watch it too? It's beautiful, beautiful crack.

Oh, and can I add that guest stars in the past have also included Inoue Kazuhiko, Suzuki Chihiro and Madono Matsuaki?

Onto things slightly more people will appreciate. I was at the branch next to Pet City yet again, so I went in to have a look at the kitties. The cream British Shorthair is still stalking me... he's so cute!

I also found another corner with more animals! And one of them was a Lion Rabbit! At least, that's what the katakana written on his cage said. Anyone know what the English for 'Lion Rabbit' is? He looked like a regular rabbit, except he had a big fluffy mane.

They also had a baaaaaaaby ferret.

I bought Switch by Naked Ape. I'm completely in love with Dolls, currently running in Zero Sum, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've also been using a notebook from the series for mail "art"...

I've only read the first chapter, but my first impression is LOVE! It's set in the Ministry of Welfare's Narcotics Management Department in the Kantou Shin'etsu area and focuses on Etou Kai (new), Kurabayashi Haru (new), Kajiyama Keigo (kachou) and Hiki Masataka (buchou). In the first chapter, Kai and Haru go undercover in a boxing gym to find out more about a former pro-boxer who's now involved in drug-related crime. Kai's love of children is being exploited by everyone else on the team, since he accidentally befriended the son of this man earlier in the manga.

It taps into one of my biggest kinks in anime/manga -- team dynamics! It doesn't matter if they get on badly or not, but I love seeing the way they look after each other, are interested in each other and how they work together. I want to see their everyday interactions, although I'm only interested if they do interesting things outside that (drug investigation, assassination, shinigami work, etc...).

Another thing I appreciate in manga is cute men with glasses and both Haru and Masataka fit that description. Oh, and there ARE pairing hints. Main one seems to be Haru x Kai.

The problem is that there's a ton of new vocab about ministries and bureaus and drugs. At first, the manga throws a lot of kanji at you with no breaks; a string of twenty-one kanji in a row (the highest so far!) would make anyone's eyes glaze over. It does have furigana though, and it gets easier the more you read.

Does anyone know if it's been/being scanlated? I'd love to point everyone in that direction. Anyway, for now, G Fantasy's page has a lot of information on the series. In the drama CD, the cast was:

Kai: Fukuyama Jun
Haru: Sakurai Takahiro
Kajiyama: Nakai Kazuya
Hiki: Suwabe Jun'ichi

I hope everyone is now sufficiently motivated to track this series down. ;)

Psydoll are playing Shinjuku URGA on the 7th April from 6pm. They give ticket prices for turning up on the day, so I guess that's possible. Will have to consider it.

I did a quick search on 'Nerima Daikon Brothers' and found that this site is reviewing the episodes.

I thought you might want to know.

Do you know if the show is being fansubbed? It looks hilarious.
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 14:54 (UTC)
Thanks -- although it seems to be saying that they've abandoned reviewing the show.

I heard rumours that it was, but I've seen nothing to support that. I did find a whole bunch of raws on TokyoTosho.com, but that's all.

I've seen some merchandise for Switch. The art is gorgeous. I've not being able to find the manga in a language I can read, unfortunately.
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 14:54 (UTC)
I really do recommend it, if it ever gets translated. ^^
Ananomoreprinces on 14th March 2006 15:09 (UTC)
What episode was that? I need that for the crack. I'll start DLing the raw right away.
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 14:55 (UTC)
I believe that was episode 10. The very latest, in any case.
Ananomoreprinces on 15th March 2006 18:33 (UTC)
Yup! Downloaded and watched. Very cracky indeed.
Williamgenkischuldich on 17th March 2006 10:24 (UTC)
Yay! I'm glad someone else has seen it! :P
nekojitanekojita on 14th March 2006 16:56 (UTC)
Aw, I don't know if I'd have the strength to walk past a pet store like that every day and not buy anything.

The manga sounds very interesting! Please keep us updated if you find out that it's being scanlated.
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 14:56 (UTC)
I don't have any choice! I don't have the money for a pedigree kitten.

As for the manga, GokuMew2 (below) says up to four has been scanlated, although the site's gone. Maybe there are some copies lurking on IRC?
nekojitanekojita on 15th March 2006 17:09 (UTC)
Hmm, I'll have to look it up on irc.

I love switch! <3 Hiki Buchou~~ .*_* I'm sure he's super bad-ass if he gets serious enough. Mucho luv for Kai and Haru, and also Kaji as well, though I must admit I hadn't been paying too much attention to him. .^^;; I wonder when vol 9 will come out! Must get.

As for scanlations, it's being done by a group uhh... Time something... I can't remember the name. I think I only have a few chapters by them. I'll check the group name when I get home.

I still need to listen to the third drama CD. =.x
Mewgokumew2 on 14th March 2006 22:17 (UTC)
Okies, the scanlator for switch is Timcanpi. Seems like their site is gone. They did up to chapter 4.
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 14:59 (UTC)
Thanks for the information! It's a little difficult to read (add 'Yakuza slang' to the list of things that make it tough-going!), but I really love it. Are you reading Dolls too, by any chance?
Mewgokumew2 on 15th March 2006 16:37 (UTC)
No prob! And yeah... Not to mention all those department names that have like 15 kanji in a row. .^^;;;

No I'm not. =.( Anyone scanlating that?
Williamgenkischuldich on 15th March 2006 17:14 (UTC)
Yeah -- like I said, the highest number of kanji in a row was something like 21!

No one, as far as I know. It appears in the same magazine as Loveless though.
Mewgokumew2 on 15th March 2006 22:09 (UTC)
Haha, yeah... .^^; I tend to kinda skip those. =.P
Ah, I see. Maybe I'll just buy the manga sometime, though probably not soon since Kino charges like $8 for a vol. Why do they have to publish it in the bigger format? =.(
