I had to go to work today, but I was very glad I did because a student told me there was a festival being held over the weekend in Ochanomizu!

I went there directly after work, although I was worried that there would be nothing left to see there. I needn't have worried! There were mikoshi (portable shrines that lots of people carry together), food vendors and inflatable idols.

I had the best chocobanana ever. First of all, you played pinball and, depending on your score, chose your chocolate banana. Only the VERY HIGHEST scores got the chocolate bananas with a fresh strawberry on top. All the others had silver balls, rainbow sprinkle, marshmallows, little candy stars, embedded pocky... they were little works of art. I could've sworn I took a picture, but I can't find it.

There was also jacket potato, shaved ice, grilled potato, fish (ayu) on a stick... every festival is delicious. :)

I'm also going tomorrow with starrbeam!

kuroe got us a TV a couple of weeks ago, but he didn't tell me we needed an aerial. I wanted to watch the Maison Ikkoku TV special that was aired tonight. I don't know if anyone will torrent it though. Takahashi Rumiko-sensei was the mangaka that got me into manga/anime when there was very little else being translated, but I think very few people have heard of it now.

That's so amazing! What was the festival for? Awesome pictures...

I didn't knkow they were still making Maison Ikkoku stuff. That's an old show/manga. I'm familiar with it, though, so don't feel old! I think the older crew knows about it, it's just these young whipper snappers that haven't a clue.

A shrine, I believe. I don't know much more than that... Thanks, but they're still pretty bad because I took them with my mobile phone because I wasn't expecting to go anywhere today.

Ah, glad someone's heard of it! Remember when there was only Viz...?

yea for tomorrow!! :D

It was fun! Now we need to get our plans in motion. :)

I'd be shocked if nobody torrented Maison Ikkoku. It still has a large fanbase among old school anime fans over here. (I'm admittedly not a fan, though Ranma 1/2 was the first anime series I rented like crazy when I got into anime, so I understand what you mean.)

But it's a drama rather than an anime... I don't know how many people are interested in that.

I only read manga for a very long time because you couldn't get anime in the UK. Some really hardcore fans got TVs that could play NTSC tapes and were pretty smug about it. :)

Wow... those were the days!

So, what chocobanana did you get? Hmm?
Williamgenkischuldich on 13th May 2007 15:36 (UTC)
One covered with pink and silver balls, yellow and pink stars and a little star-shaped marshmallow on top. :)

Yay!! Festivals and chocobananas!! o.o~
Mm, I know the name Maison Ikkoku but I have no clue what it's about. Oops.

As far as I remember, it's about a boy who's staying in a guest house while he's waiting to pass the entrance exams for university. His landlady is a beautiful young widow and the rest of the inhabitants make life difficult for him.

...wacky hijinks ensue.

I loved Maison Ikkoku!! <3 One of my old favorites from Rumiko days too. That manga was so great, and I liked what I watched of the anime too. I saw the drama last night though, and I was really disappointed. I guess I have too high standards, but it's not too much to ask them to make the characters true to the manga, is it?

Are you going to go to the festival in Asakusa next weekend? I'm thinking about going, though I'm wary of the large crowds... I haaaaaate crowds. ;_;

Oh? What was wrong with the drama...?

I might. Not sure yet. :)

I really didn't like Kyoko's actress, she didn't seem comfortable in her role at all. Too bad too because she was really good in Densha Otoko. Same with Godai, he wasn't appealing at all, even to feel sorry for. But the real problem was with Akemi. She didn't have red hair!!!!! And you couldn't see her nipples in her nightshirt! When I think of Maison Ikkoku, that's the first thing that I think of, and I can't believe they didn't at the very least have her have red hair. I'm so sick of japanese dramas/movies not paying attention to how the character looks. It's not true to the manga at all.
