I failed in my attempt to get X JAPAN tickets... as expected. I don't know if I'll bother going to the online auctions.

Got a Broadway version of the Sweeney Todd soundtrack... The accents are a little strange (very American!) and I don't like the voices so much, with the exception of Johanna, but there are a number of bits added that change perceptions of certain characters. Lucy's line "Don't I know you?" turns up in just the second song and Todd unknowingly rejects her soon after. Well, it's not so Gothic and Tragic that way, is it? Also, the creepy music that plays over the credits and reappears as a theme later on, is actually supposed to be a full chorus. Err, I still prefer the film version.

I went to DnD on Sunday and my character now has his own custom miniature, thanks to one of the other players. His armor's purple...!

I'm just entering the last month of the school year and my third year junior high schoolers gave me a book of messages. It came as a bit of a surprise, so I was very touched.

I'm going to be doing a sort of "awards show" for my last lesson this week, so I'd be grateful if everyone filled it out. If any of the four choices given for each category seem strange, it's because it reflects what they know and their interests. Just pick one if nothing grabs you. :)

Quiz done! XD
there are some questions that I dun like the answers.. LOL

ah, Sweeney Tood US version? I never knew that it had been released.. ^^;;
Williamgenkischuldich on 26th February 2008 11:26 (UTC)
The latest movie soundtrack? I guess it's been released, since I downloaded it. ^^ There's also another soundtrack you can download too, which is the 2005 Broadway version. I've listened to the movie version SO MUCH and I wanted to hear another interpretation.

The 'I'll steal u, joanna' song is stuck on my head till now~ XD

From a post on my flist, unfortunately. ^^

I 100% recommend hearing either Len Cariou or George Hearn singing Sweeney Todd (esp George Hearn and Angela Landsbury in the leads).

I couldn't even see the film I was so horrified with Johnny Depp's singing in the extracts I heard. He's a good looking guy and a good actor, but he can no way sing like George Hearn and I'm just a GH fangirl who won't accept anything less. ^-^

DnD!!! *hearts*
Williamgenkischuldich on 26th February 2008 13:10 (UTC)
I really liked his singing, to be honest. Currently listening to the Michael Cerveris, Patti LuPone version and it's really not as good in comparison. ^^
Thomas Vye: Aqaurion!thomasvye on 26th February 2008 13:20 (UTC)
I can't comment on those performers in the roles, though Patti LuPone was an amazing Fantine in Les Miserables. Depp's vocal performance *shakes head*...he just doesn't have even half the sheer vocal power of a George Hearn. But I guess just like people like different shows and find different people attractive, different people like different voices. :)
Williamgenkischuldich on 26th February 2008 13:27 (UTC)
The problem is partially that she has a more booming voice that what I expect of the character now. The other, which is annoying me a lot more, is that she has a very pronounced American accent. I guess the movie was relying on different ideas of the characters and that came through more.

Expectation and what you're used to are always important, and I have been a fan of Sondhiem's Sweeny for a long time - I was super happy with Tim Burton as director, but equally unhappy with his casting of both of the leads, so...yeah. Not for me.
golden_bastetgolden_bastet on 26th February 2008 14:16 (UTC)
I have always been told (forever and ever) that the Angela Lansbury Sweeney Todd from the late 1970s is the definitive version. I never got to see the Broadway version, but I do know people who were disappointed in the movie because it wasn't the Broadway musical.

I think it's a preference thing; the movie (which I've seen) is fine, but apparently a lot was taken out to make it into more of a sung movie than a musical (if that makes sense). Burton wanted to use actors - specific actors (he is after all married to H B-C and they're very good friends with JD) - who don't sing, so he changed things in order to do that. Sondheim was consulted on this, and agreed to it, so... that's what it is. If you love the Broadway version, I can see viewing the movie as a pale imitation. If you didn't, or you never saw it, then the movie is a decently done movie. In another year, without so many other good films (for once!), it would likely have been nominated for more Oscars. (It seems like the type of film that the Academy likes.)

And what's with the Hello Kitty love??? She creeps me out. I'm going back to bed and hiding under the covers :shivers: %^D
Williamgenkischuldich on 27th February 2008 11:47 (UTC)
I can see what you mean, but I still prefer the movie for various reasons. Possibly I would have to see it live to really understand the differences. :)
Trinlenina on 26th February 2008 14:17 (UTC)
I agree with you on the Sweeney Todd musical... I saw it live and I fell asleep twice...
Williamgenkischuldich on 27th February 2008 11:48 (UTC)
I think it would probably be fantastic live, but I still prefer the movie soundtrack to the 2005 Broadway one.

X Japan Tickets
Hi there! My friend and roommate alainia told me you needed help getting X Japan concert tickets. As I am going to all three, and know people who have extra tickets, I believe I can help!
In fact, as it is, my friend friezaess is trying to sell her extra ticket for the March 29th show. Since she did not have a credit card, I bought the ticket for her, and she paid me for it via Paypal. However, another friend also bought her a ticket. So now she is looking to sell the one I bought for her. If you like, you can send me the money[which will then be sent to her as she has already paid me] (or her, depending on who you get in touch with first), and then I can transfer the ticket to you via JRockRevolution's passport transfer system (which I have yet to use but I assume it works). All I would need is your name and passport number I believe. I'm not sure if the system is up yet - if it's not, we might have to wait a bit, but I could also enquire after it. Worst comes to worst, we meet up at the Will Call at Tokyo Dome and I hand you the ticket.

Also, if you need help purchasing any of the other night's tickets, let me know. I might be able to find extra tickets, or help you buy them through JRockRevolution.

Feel free to email me/IM me/comment on my LJ/send me a message via LJ. All of my info should be in my user profile. =)

Re: X Japan Tickets
As you are in Japan and probably asleep (you're not on AIM)I will give you an update on the situation here!

friezaess would like me to pay her back the money she sent me for the ticket. I can do that. Then, you just have to show up at the concert with the correct amount, and we'll trade cash for the ticket. Sound good to you?

Let me know if you need help getting ticket(s) for the 28th or 30th.
Williamgenkischuldich on 28th February 2008 13:22 (UTC)
Re: X Japan Tickets

Re: X Japan Tickets
See, always best to ask. :) Let's just call it 14,300 then, since exchange rates are bound to fluctuate a little since then.

Re: X Japan Tickets
Sounds good to me! =D We probably should exchange cell numbers (though I don't have a Japanese cell phone that has a working plan, I do plan to rent one from Narita, so I could keep yours in a little notebook for when I get it.) and pictures of each other closer to the concert. XD
