I stayed up and watched both Disgaea and Ouran High School Host Club a few nights ago (Do we have a cute name which OHSHC abbreviates to yet, or will I have to type it out in full every time I post about it...?). I tried Glass no Kantai too, but I just couldn't be bothered to stay up. Maybe it would be more watchable before 2am...?
I hadn't expected Ouran High School Host Club would be that... flaming. No, really. I was expecting a few hints here and there, but nothing quite so blatant! But there it was! Fantastic! And there's f/f, m/f, m/m, twins...
I love the main female character so far, but I can't stand the other female characters. They utterly repel me. Haruhi really impressed me by not freaking out having kissed another woman. And, well, basically by not being the typical submissive/stupid anime girl. I hope this is kept up throughout the series. *fingers crossed* I think we need more 'butch' girls in anime.
Another thing I loved was the night-time sakura. Watching it made me so happy to be here! *smile* That reminds me; it was raining today, and I saw this pale pink car plastered with pink cherry blossom petals. It's been raining heavily here and a few nights ago, kuroe and I pulled our futons up to the balcony window. We left it open, slid the insect screen across and listened to the rain tapping on the metal and pouring off the trees. The sky was pale and was threatening dawn -- there was also an eerie green glow from a nearby streetlight. Occasionally, there was a breeze and a little spray blew in our direction.
Anyway, that was quite a tangent...!
Disgaea was fun and Chuu-Boss is still one of my favourites. I've never played the game, but I've read the manga (it was in Zero-Sum). kuroe said it's pretty close to the game, since he recognises a few scenes from it. He also added that he isn't out of the tutorial yet...
As for Glass no Kantai... Every time someone says that they're going to produce a cool-looking robot/space anime that will combine 3D images with 2D animation, they should be slapped hard. The spaceships looked good and the cel-like animation wasn't bad, but the combination of high tech and retro designs didn't work at all. It just felt off.
The characters didn't engage me either. Why are they dressed like that? Why did they suddenly decide to build glass battleships one day? I don't know.
Having said that, I might be more open to watching it if it were on earlier in the evening.
