Series: Tennis no Oujisama.
Characters: Sakuno and Tomoka, two years in the future.
"When I was twelve, I thought I'd fallen in love. I called him 'my Ryouma-sama' and followed him everywhere with placards professing my love. Funny, huh?" Tomo hit the tennis ball lightly; it glanced off the wall and towards Sakuno.
Sakuno smiled. Even though Tomo was the star of the Women's Tennis Club, she didn't embarass her friends. After two years of practice, this was a shot Sakuno could manage. She sent it back to the wall.
"When I first joined Seishun Gakuen, he was my inspiration. He was the first one to teach us this game, remember?"
It was another easy shot for Sakuno, but she didn't try to hit the ball this time. "Tomo-chan... is something wrong?"
The ball bounced a couple of times; Tomo smashed it into the concrete paving and it leapt up. She drove it towards the wall with the same light touch as before. "I'm fine. I just wanted to explain because the rest is too difficult otherwise."
Sakuno looked at her friend a split-second too long and only just returned the ball. Her reflexes had improved, although she'd never make the Regulars.
"I'd fallen in love with tennis. But also..."
Tomo lowered her racket and the ball whizzed past into her waiting hand. "...with my Sakuno-sama." She bit her lip and waited for an answer.
