My kitty is calm and sitting quietly in my lap. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to write. Perhaps it is because it is Saturday (I should be at work, but I got the day off for a concert rehearsal), I'm still in my pajamas and I haven't eaten. Someone stole all the food in the fridge and replaced it with two cans of lemon Can-Chu-Hi.

Speaking on writing, I always check out Miss Snark's blog. She's an anonymous literary agent who gives lots of blunt advice. Therefore, I was delighted when I read a recent post on when to give up on writing:

Publication may be nice but it's not the only reward.

The very act of writing is its own reward. It teaches you (if you pay attention) how to see the world through different eyes; how to wield language skilfully; how to organize a persuasive presentation.

You recognize that writing is a creative art and brings you joy."

Now read the rest here.

I feel like another pointless poll.

Poll #934020 Random+

What sweets do you remember from your childhood?

Foam sugar shrimp.
White chocolate mice.
Exploding candy.
Candy cigarettes.
Walnut Whips.
Double Deckers.
Curly Wurlies.
...I'm not from the UK and none (most) of these are(n't) ringing any bells for me.
Ticky sweets~!

Do you read any actor's blogs?

Nope, I'm not interested in celebrities.
Nope, because I like them too much to find out what they're really like.
Yes, just a few that I really like.
Yes, including some I'm not very interested in just in case they mention an actor I do like!
Yes, I read as many as I know about. I like a lot of celebrities.

And now I'm off to the rehearsal, I swear!

I hope I'll be able to!

Thanks! It was... interesting. I forgot how much I love being on stage. ^^

Hm, wise advice. ^^ It's what I tell everyone too, cause writing to please anyone other than yourself... it's just not as rewarding. If your block is work-related (like you have to write for work (I've never asked what it is you do, if it is okay to ask? XD), I hope it breaks soon. (And good luck at the rehearsal! ^^)

As for the British candy... some sound familiar, and I know I've had some (I we love imported sweets :D), but I'm not sure if any of those were it. XD

To really understand the impact of the advice, you'd have to read Miss Snark's usual entries. She's not a touchy-feely person by any means. So her words had a big impact, I think. As for work, I teach English. However, I've got it into my head that one day I'm going to be published, somehow. If this happens, people here will be the first to know. Probably in 60-pt font. :)

See, I was telling my students and coworkers about pink foam shrimp and just got blank stares from all the non-Brits. I started formulating the theory that these were unique and unexportable. I mean, really, sugar shrimps? WHY??

Don’t tell me that they don’t make Walnut Whips anymore! I’ve been looking for those for ages now.
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th February 2007 10:43 (UTC)
I've no idea. I remember them clearly from my childhood and they don't seem to be about any more. I wonder when they disappeared...?
reichsfreiherr on 24th February 2007 10:51 (UTC)
The Nestle site says that they should have them. I need to find some.

;_; I'm feeling the same way about Cadbury's Creme Eggs about now.

Ah, I love reading Miss Snark, she makes some good points throughout all her sarcasm and such.

As for the poll, I remember having candy cigs when I was younger, they had those chalky tasting things in the US too. Exploding candy, like pop rocks? I still love pop rocks, even now!!
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th February 2007 12:52 (UTC)
Yeah! It'll all be good advice once I start submitting that novel, I'm sure. ^^

I don't really know what pop rocks are. Exploding candy is like tiny tiny candy fragments that fizz and pop on your tongue. I used to love the cherry flavour!
Emily Rena: Schuldigsavage_sanity on 24th February 2007 22:55 (UTC)
That's pop rocks to us, :)
Williamgenkischuldich on 25th February 2007 10:03 (UTC)
I've no idea why, but I always assumed pop rocks were a type of cereal...
