I will reply to all those comments very soon -- Promise!

fishlove found this report from the Tokyo International Anime Fair, which has the names to all the characters in Velvet Underworld.

His real name is Tomoe Uruyu, apparently. His family name is interesting, because the first thing I thought of was Tomoe Sakura. I wonder if there's any connection...? Uruyu is a pretty interesting name, because I've never heard it before. I even checked the online name dictionary and they have no record of Uruyu. So... Koyasu made it up? Is the original report not so accurate? Is it actually a rare name? Not a clue.

Speaking of names, those of the thirteen who attacked him originally are written on his skin. Looking at the picture, I think I can make out the kanji "天狼" which could mean Sirius, the dog star, or just the name Tenrou. Or I might be misreading incomplete kanji.

VELVET, KURO, DRY and PAWN we already know a little about.

...Neu, maybe? Although Noi is a Japanese name in its own right.

It's Willy Wonka! But, judging by his name and the picture, he seems to specialise in disguises. Maybe we won't see him wearing that outfit for most of the show. I don't know whether I'd be relieved or disappointed.

Underpants man! He appears to be a sniper, so maybe the lingerie helps him focus?

A fairly typical Japanese name. Fairly typical looking man.

Military outfit, plain name. Hmm... I'm guessing he's from the military. But from which one? The self-defence force...? Or another country's...?

The guy in the bobble hat. He appears to be a safe-cracker, but I've no idea about the significance of the numbers in his name.

Ooh. :)

The boy that looked like Yuki. Garagara means to rattle or clatter, usually.

You can also see the villains, who look so cool! One of them even looks like Crawford...

Poll #972373 Velvet Under World...?

Who are you most interested in?

Today I briefly became a tennis boy (YAY!) and took part in my middle school's tennis club. That'll be in a locked post, obviously. Just not sure when... *tired*

Ooooh. Oh, Koyasu! Never change!

The villians! Not only does one look like old-skool Crawford, but the red haired guy with the eye on his hand (eww) is standing in classic Nagi-telekinetically-whupping-ass pose. Is it too much to hope for that the villains are from Eszett?
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th April 2007 13:19 (UTC)
I look at the villains and think 'yup, definitely psychic'.

If my track record is any indication, I'll like the villains better anyway.

;-; i found out there's no tennis club at my school... *sniffle*

..but the girls in the english club made me some really cute origami pieces.. X33 including a little heart... with "Tackey & Tsubasa <3" written inside. XDDDDDD
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th April 2007 16:50 (UTC)
Oh, that's too bad! ;_; Are there any other school clubs? I wish I could go to the English club at my school, but it's held on a day that I'm not there!

Everything I know about Bleach comes from Burimyu, so I can't really say much about characters. Maybe it IS Uryuu, because then it could mean something cool like 'Rain Dragon'.

There's got to be some tragic reasons for the pants. Drabble...?

There was a loooot of crack being smoked when the clothing they're wearing was designed. Do they plan to blind the enemy with an atrocious wardrobe?

I'm quite interested in Linx and the one with the burned looking face (which one is he? I am lame at following names)

I have to wonder what Fake looks like under that... that... thing called an outfit.
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th April 2007 16:57 (UTC)
The one with the burned-looking face may have been Blueberry, perhaps?

I love Fake. Seriously. I don't know how I'll feel once it comes out though...

you know if you look beside Aya's bangs in the hi res picture you can see him in bed with velvet - please don't let it be his sister, please don't let it be his sister...... incest squick (have you seen my brother)

but Tomoe is also the name of Sailor Saturn, she's Hotaru Tomoe, so I'm trying to remember what it means but coming up blank, but her father is also a tomoe, and according to Wiki it means sprouting earth (whcih makes sense in Sailor Moon land) So her name is Earth firefly, so his is earth
Uruyuu (do you think it;s meant to be like him in Bleach, the Quincy who's Uryuu)
but i have no idea what that means - do you think she works by day in a soapland?

I'm still going on David eddings for the velvet thing
Rock has been lifted from X though i can't remember his name
give me time, I'll come up with theories for the rest of them
but i do like birman's outfit
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th April 2007 17:03 (UTC)
I think it is probably his wife, which would kind of disappoint me. But it would make sense, since it says he was involved in "a messy affair".

Yeah, Tomoe is a really common Japanese name. I was only really looking to make connections within the series. ^^ Sakura is an interesting choice... Her name presumably uses different kanji from Sailor Saturn since it's 巴, which is a comma design. Unfortunately, the reporter didn't leave any details about what kanji they used.

Darn you, it was so hard for me to choose between Rock and 303! D= And why radio buttons instead of ticky boxes.

...sleep, rue, get some sleep before work.
Williamgenkischuldich on 24th April 2007 17:05 (UTC)
Radio buttons so you have to choose rather than tick everything. :)

Yes, sleep. *nods*

Blueberry for the win!

Seriously, this series is gonna one-up WK in total WTF-ness, isn't it? *loves*

Until the villain information is released, I'm gonna pretend one of them (probably the redhead with the bizarre eyes) is named Fruit Punch.
Williamgenkischuldich on 25th April 2007 06:13 (UTC)
Yep! I wonder how many episodes there will be? Thirteen is a pretty standard number these days... One angsty past an ep, maybe?

Fruit Punch is an awesome name. I'm kind of disappointed that WIlly Wonka had a serious name too...
yoinkmyspleen on 24th April 2007 22:24 (UTC)
Tomoe, Really? Because a Tomoe character spelled as in 巴, was played by Koyasu himself on one of the Drama CDs and I'll be damned if I can remember which. I know it's once I've got but I've currently leant my three to a friend so I can't look it up.
yoinkmyspleen on 25th April 2007 01:55 (UTC)
Aha, it was the first Schwarz CD. Hm.

The first thing that comes to mind is that Tomoe is an alter ego of Aya, since I don't remember much about the Tomoe in the Schwarz drama, who is actually simply called "巴" and nothing more.

That's a nice idea, and fits in with my idea about Noi/?Neu?. On the other hand they printed the katakana and the way they chose to romanise it, so Dry/Noi must be what they want. Unless it's to throw us off track...

Err... what would 'drei' mean? *Doesn't know German*

Uryuu is also the name of Ishida in BLEACH. .^^
Williamgenkischuldich on 25th April 2007 06:20 (UTC)
Yeah, but Uruyu and Uryuu are very different names. Although... hm... posible typo, you think?

mmmmm, Hard to pick without any ticky boxes. Had to vote for Garagara in the end, because he's cute and looks angsty. I think he's tied with Blueberry for who I'm most curious about, but Garagara had no votes yet. Woe!

The villains *definitely* look fun.

I wonder how long it'll take VU to get from this to the point where we can actually watch it... Thank you, Koyasu-san, for indulging in our need for assassins and wtf.

Yay~ tennis boys. >XD
Williamgenkischuldich on 25th April 2007 06:25 (UTC)
I was torn between Blueberry and Fake, myself. But I just want to know more about Blueberry because of his name. Which really is awesome.

...I wonder who Fake really is...?

And yeah, I wondered about that too. These things usually take ages, particularly since they're only just deciding the seiyuu (they say).

Yay! I never thought Koyasu-san will do another project like this again, I mean with KB still unfinished and all. But I'm glad for this and I'm glad I found your lj and read all about VUW. I can't wait for further developments since there are loads of questions about the characters and the story. It's nice to think that VUW is in some ways connected to WK... :D
