fishlove found this report from the Tokyo International Anime Fair, which has the names to all the characters in Velvet Underworld.

AYA

His real name is Tomoe Uruyu, apparently. His family name is interesting, because the first thing I thought of was Tomoe Sakura. I wonder if there's any connection...? Uruyu is a pretty interesting name, because I've never heard it before. I even checked the online name dictionary and they have no record of Uruyu. So... Koyasu made it up? Is the original report not so accurate? Is it actually a rare name? Not a clue.

Speaking of names, those of the thirteen who attacked him originally are written on his skin. Looking at the picture, I think I can make out the kanji "天狼" which could mean Sirius, the dog star, or just the name Tenrou. Or I might be misreading incomplete kanji.

VELVET, KURO, DRY and PAWN we already know a little about.

NOI

...Neu, maybe? Although Noi is a Japanese name in its own right.

FAKE

It's Willy Wonka! But, judging by his name and the picture, he seems to specialise in disguises. Maybe we won't see him wearing that outfit for most of the show. I don't know whether I'd be relieved or disappointed.

LINX

Underpants man! He appears to be a sniper, so maybe the lingerie helps him focus?

YOSHIKAZU

A fairly typical Japanese name. Fairly typical looking man.

ROCK

Military outfit, plain name. Hmm... I'm guessing he's from the military. But from which one? The self-defence force...? Or another country's...?

BLUEBERRY

AWESOME NAME.

303

The guy in the bobble hat. He appears to be a safe-cracker, but I've no idea about the significance of the numbers in his name.

BIRMAN

Ooh. :)

GARAGARA

The boy that looked like Yuki. Garagara means to rattle or clatter, usually.

You can also see the villains, who look so cool! One of them even looks like Crawford...

Today I briefly became a tennis boy (YAY!) and took part in my middle school's tennis club. That'll be in a locked post, obviously. Just not sure when... *tired*

you know if you look beside Aya's bangs in the hi res picture you can see him in bed with velvet - please don't let it be his sister, please don't let it be his sister...... incest squick (have you seen my brother)

but Tomoe is also the name of Sailor Saturn, she's Hotaru Tomoe, so I'm trying to remember what it means but coming up blank, but her father is also a tomoe, and according to Wiki it means sprouting earth (whcih makes sense in Sailor Moon land) So her name is Earth firefly, so his is earth
Uruyuu (do you think it;s meant to be like him in Bleach, the Quincy who's Uryuu)
but i have no idea what that means - do you think she works by day in a soapland?

I'm still going on David eddings for the velvet thing
Rock has been lifted from X though i can't remember his name
give me time, I'll come up with theories for the rest of them
but i do like birman's outfit

I think it is probably his wife, which would kind of disappoint me. But it would make sense, since it says he was involved in "a messy affair".

Yeah, Tomoe is a really common Japanese name. I was only really looking to make connections within the series. ^^ Sakura is an interesting choice... Her name presumably uses different kanji from Sailor Saturn since it's 巴, which is a comma design. Unfortunately, the reporter didn't leave any details about what kanji they used.

Actually, scratch that. She doesn't have to be his wife because he could be the homewrecker.

Or... "affair" could be a synonym for "incident/case".

I should go to bed.
