One of my pupils was playing with an ecology game on Yahoo!Kids. The premise of the game "EcoEgo" is that you control a cute little character in a white jumpsuit and balance his stress level with his environment. If you turn down the air conditioner too much, then the the squirrels and birds die, twitching at your feet. If you don't turn it on, then he dies from stress.

At one point, he was extremely stressed and "went outside to play". My pupil scrolled up to turn on the aircon for when he got back, but he was nowhere to be found. He never came back and the world dried up and died because she'd turned on the aircon.

In the final scenario, the character turned up the aircon and then went outside to make sandcastles on a beach which was rapidly disappearing as the world dried up around him. All the while, light 80'sish electronic music played. He went back to his apartment and died from the stress. It was like some kind of European arthouse short film.

Want to play this for yourself...?

Can you send me a direct link for this? Is there a US version. I would love to pass this on to a couple of Environmental Ed teachers in Western PA. I am presently student teaching in Chemistry at a nearby HS.

Got the hang of a bit of this just watching the pictures but I really wish I could read Japanese!

There's not much Japanese in it, really. The pictures will pretty much tell you what they do and there's a sign on your right with two columns, one labelled 'ecology' and the other 'stress'.

Glad you got something out of it. :)

Was actually asking for the direct link so that I could pass it on to the environmental ed. teacher to use with her class. Which is ecology & which is stress?

Please send along any neat stuff like this that you get. I think its great. It doesn't exist on the USA yahoo though.

Hm, I thought that was the direct link. I don't know of any other, unfortunately. The one on the far right is stress, the other ecology.

I googled and found an English version though: http://www.marukin-ad.co.jp/ecoego/ecoego.html

Haven't played it through, so I don't know if it's /exactly/ the same.

I’m sure there was a Norwegian film like that except the character there leaped in front of a train, survived and then went back home while everything else carried on around him regardless.

And having had a go at that game I think I managed to kill the little chap by making him ride a bike to the market, which feels like it ought to be some critical statement on the state of today’s convenience society.

I'm sure there's a film just like this out there, yeah.

...If you don't let him brush his teeth, he dies too.

Re: Oh my god!
After a while, you'll begin to get addicted to the music. But yeah, that's exactly what it's saying.
