Obama has achieved a historic victory, but anti-gay measures like prop 8 have been passed across America. That's not to say it wasn't expected, but I'm disappointed. And disgusted.

So much win, America... Yet so much fail.

Always bad with the good anymore. I'm disappointed that passed too. I'm sad I didn't get to vote against it :/

Sadly, I could not vote against it. I did get to vote for President though.

The way I see it, it's one step forward, two steps back. For some reason my nation can only make so many advances at once.

But! I have faith in the constitution that my country is based upon, and I hope that the courts over-rule those propositions as they are unconstitutional. But I can't say for sure they will. I just hope they will. It's their job to uphold the constitution.

I know, it's been buried under all the news about Obama. Don't get me wrong, Obama's victory is hugely momentous, but it would've been nice to have both victories. *sigh*

For some reason, anti-gay measures seem to always pass. Grr!

You nailed it on the head there. And in California of all places! I'm so disapointed in humanity today...really dampens my happiness at Obama's voctory.

Yep, it's rather sad to go from one high to one deep low on the same day.

According to one report, the increased turn out from African American voters also increased the vote for Prop 8. I've noticed a lot of comments over the past year which associate conservative attitudes with "redneck" white fundamental christians but the reality is that history and the (rightful) embracing of ethnic diversity have created a situation which is much more complex. And that's true here as well as in the US. America's racial minorities have finally reached a position where they have a strong voice but I don't think the country has turned Liberal overnight.
