First off, thank you to jukebox_hero, yami_tai and personaje for the snowflake LJ gifts. Thanks for thinking of me. :)

I took quite a long break from LJ recently, except to complain, but I'm back now. I was studying for the JLPT, which I finally took on Sunday. I took it about three years ago and passed, so I decided enough time had gone by and I wanted to take it to the next level. So to speak.

Well, I didn't pass (although results are due in February), but I know so many more kanji now as a result of my exam-prompted study. When I looked over my notebooks from my Japanese class, they consisted entirely of bad puns, insects and literary terms.

After the exam, I went with a group of friends to the Berry Cafe in Ginza, which is almost not as expensive as it looks. I think I'll be doing a blog post on that sooner or later. They gave me a free box of Zodiac-themed tea for visiting twice. Which is nice.

[Edit: I forgot to mention, but I just read Eda's journal and was reminded. We saw cosplayers at the izakaya we went to later. They noticed us staring, so "Roy Mustang" gave us a thumbs up. I returned it, and he explained who he was. I immediately said, "Hagaren, right?" and everyone was pretty shocked. I could name Inu Yasha and San from Mononoke Hime too(!). So I asked "Inu Yasha" what he was doing in a modern-day izakaya and he said he was with Kagome. Everyone lol'd. We were in the middle of paying the bill, so I had to go, but it was a nice use of real Japanese after the test!]

Now it's over, it means that I have time to translate stuff. How about some anime news?

  • I posted on Twitter (@spamfromjapan) about this but not here. At a recent Saiyuuki Gaiden event in Sunshine City it was announced that an OAV will be forthcoming.
  • New Code Geass is coming! The announcement on the official site reads: "[...] This new project will involve the simultaneous and constant release of comics, music, official goods and anime [whether TV, OAV or movie is unspecified]. Multiple projects will come together. [...] The first shot of information is to be found in the next edition of Monthly Newtype, released on December 10th. And from there... No, that's enough. We can't talk about it yet."
  • A new anime is coming out based on a gag manga about feudal lords. Looks to me like it's trying to win over Hetalia fans. Anyway, it's called Tono to Issho.

Finally, I got my hair cut with dilettantka, since I had free coupons for a famous(!) and otherwise expensive hair salon in Tokyo called Sin Den. Really great experience, didn't feel like an idiot for once, and I ended up with something I wanted. I went in with quite bad hair (It was getting too long and feminine, so I got angry and cut it without waiting to go to the hairdressers). Now? I feel like I just stepped out of a manga with spiky hair on top and asymmetrical fringe. Sounds so childish, doesn't it? But seriously, I feel great. Maybe I'll post some pictures soon(?).

(Also I bought Grell's glasses chain the other day and wearing it also makes me feel good. I guess it's because I can't wear steampunk goggles or cosplay non-glasses-wearing characters, so something that makes my glasses look awesome is pretty sweet. :))

Do post a pic of your new hairstyle! ;)

Okay, I'm just about to do so. :)

Can't believe so many people are asking about this...

I think my head is going to EXPLODE.

In a good way? I never got into Gaiden, but I'm interested in seeing it anyway.

DEFINITELY in a good way! I'm sure it'll be much more enjoyable to be able to watch the story than to have to fit together scans and translations. Not that scans and translations are bad, of course. I've got an entire binder dedicated to your Side B translations and have read them with the books countless times. If you love something that much, you do what you have to do.

Speaking of which... did you happen to get my message about the Side B translations and if they were in your LJ somewhere? I've got another person e-mailing me at my Side B site asking me where they can find them.

Ah, I've read bits and pieces in... I think it was ZERO SUM, right? Or was that Reload? Anyway, I didn't read it every month, and the idea bugged me because it was too similar to Saiyuuki, yet not similar enough. If that makes sense?

Got it! Sorry, still catching up with mail after my pseudo-hiatus. I think they're only on my computer, but I'll try and get them up soon.

Yeah, it was in Ward along with Side B. I think it started out a bit slow, then got amazingly good. The last few chapters were painful and beautiful.

Hey, no worries. I know you were sick and all, so take your time. I could even post them on my website with a link to you if that's easier for you.

More Code Geass? Goodness, they're going to milk the life out of it, aren't they? I'm not sure if I should be happy or scared.

I love the way that they specifically say they're going to unleash a barrage of pointless merchandise and CDs. Might go to Animate and pick up Newtype tomorrow though. :)

It's not childish - it's a fucking AWESOME haircut. :DDD

I meant more like being excited about looking like a manga character. :P

I'd love to see the cut. I'm so envious of people who can do assymetrical styles. My hair is too variably wavy/curly to work that way.
    Williamgenkischuldich on 8th December 2009 12:44 (UTC)
I wouldn't say I can 'do' it exactly, just that I'm very happy with it. :)
    Viridian5viridian5 on 9th December 2009 00:01 (UTC)
I've gotten cuts that turned out inadvertantly assymetrical, and on wavy/curly hair it looks like a mistake instead of a deliberate choice because it so often is. *cough*

There is to be more Geass?!
    Williamgenkischuldich on 10th December 2009 10:17 (UTC)
Looks like it! I'd reading the article in Newtype right now.

Ooooh what does it say? I rather liked the anime...or at least looking at it. I still got to get my hands on one last C.C. figure but I am thinking of selling my Knights manga and possibly doujinshi (I never did buy much of it). =/ But then I suppose this might be because I can only handle having so much material wealth about me (or my mother can only tolerate so much) and with Hetalia quickly taking up space...
