First of all, can anyone beta my yuletide fic for me? Can't really say the fandom publicly, but I'll probably know if you know it if you offer. General beta offers welcome too. :)

There is a WEISS KREUZ meme going around, so I can't resist that.

Which songs remind you of pairings and characters from WK?

Depeche Mode - Precious [YouTube]

"...If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through..."

[Full lyrics here]

This is definitely Farfarello's song. Casts him as a victim (which is how he sees himself anyway) and there are religious overtones. Could apply to other characters, most obviously Ken or Omi.

Depeche Mode - Damaged People [YouTube]

"...We're damaged people
Drawn together
By subtleties that we are not aware of
Disturbed souls
Playing out forever
These games that we once thought we would be scared of..."

[Full lyrics here]

Playing The Angel is a good Schwarz album, but this song is my Schuldig / Crawford theme.

Voltaire - When You're Evil [YouTube]

"...And it's so easy when you're evil
This is the life you see
The devil tips his hat to me
I do it all because I'm evil
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need..."

[Full lyrics here]

Schuldig. :)

X-Japan - Kurenai [YouTube]
・・・紅に染まったこの俺を 慰める奴はもういない
もう二度と届かない この思い
閉ざされた愛に向い 叫びつづける・・・

[Full lyrics here]

How is this NOT an (all-purpose) Weiss song? This time, more Weiss-side than Schwarz-side, for once.

Bauhaus - Sanity Assassin [YouTube]

...Sinister echoes clutching at straws
Letter boxes screaming
You try to pin him to the wall
You end up on the ceiling
Locked in a dome
The shadows flicker by
He's the madcap pusher
Delerium the drug he's dealing...

[Full lyrics here]

Aya x Mailbox! Could possibly be a Schuldig song too though. :)

Silver Ash - Gorgeous Devil [YouTube]

犹豫瞬间露出了狰容 又在瞬间消失无影
诱惑嘴角露出了笑容 就在瞬间将我禁锢
Showing a ferocious expression in a flashing moment of hesitation / Then vanishing it in the next moment
Showing a smile on the corner of the seductive lips / Imprisoning me in an instant

[Full lyrics here]

Another Schuldig song. Must be the kind of music I listen to. (Relying on translations of this song found on the internets for this one though...)

Gary Jules - Mad World [YouTube]

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher, tell me, what's my lesson? <-- Aya: "Murder and deat-- oh, I mean 'history'."
Look right through me, look right through me

This one got a bit overplayed. In fact, I almost forgot how much I loved it and connected it with WK because I overplayed it too. I think mostly of Sena for this one, but could work for almost any Gluhen character.

Other anime (all go to YouTube links):

Pet Shop Boys - Go West (Saiyuki)

Too obvious?

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (Ai no Kusabi)

I got nothing. The synthesisers make it sound like eighties sci-fi, but it also feels kind of dirty, which matches the setting. Also it's really gay.

Dead Can Dance - The Carnival Is Over (Kuroshitsuji)

About a circus leaving town. Guess which story arc I'm thinking of?

I forgot to mention that I read Kuroshitsuji 8. I bought it in the same week it came out and that was quite some time ago.

  • Great end to the Circus Arc. I love it when this book surprises me and when Meilin was revealed as a sharpshooter, that was definitely cool.
  • The best bit was when the usually senile Tanaka was comforting Lizzie in the bedroom.
  • Grell is coming back.
  • I don't know what to make of Ronald. I want to see more of the shinigami world, but he irritates me. It's strange, because I like characters like Youji. Having said that, love his character design and will have to see more to pass real judgment. STILL feel weird for liking William, but I'll get over it.
  • The last chapter wasn't interesting. It left us in the middle of a plot arc and seeing the characters doing 'typical English things' is not interesting to me. So there's this thing called 'Easter', you say...? Also, the talk of Ciel's proportions is designed for a particular type of fangirl's neuroses. Meh. Probably the worst chapter so far.

Perfect choice on "Precious" for Farf! I always had the distinct feeling that fit at least one WK character, but I was never entirely decided on which one... :)

Thanks. :) It's funny, because when most people make fan-soundtracks, they rarely choose songs I like. This one was a rare exception!

I couldn't agree with you more on all the songs! Great picks!

    'typical English things'

Drinking Stella during the day, signing on and wearing tracksuits? Or wearing pinstripe, having lunch at ‘fusion’ restaurants and mowing down tourists on the underground? Those are the two English stereotypes I can think of off the top of my head but if we widen it to British stereotypes I can think of a few others. Or even non-British residents on business visas in which case it would be going to Ascot, driving without a license and taking your wife on all your business trips so that while you get drunk during negotiations she can go shopping.

What where those ‘typical English things’ then out of interest?
    Williamgenkischuldich on 16th December 2009 09:07 (UTC)
Duuude, it was in scare quotes! :)

In this case, Ciel and Sebastian talk about Easter. Ciel gets measured for an Easter outfit and Sebastian decides what flowers are appropriate for the season. Then the "wacky" dressmakers comes and everyone fawns over how Ciel hasn't grown and has the proportions of a young girl... minus the arse. Could've done without that chapter!
    reichsfreiherr on 18th December 2009 15:42 (UTC)
That doesn’t sound too bad… right up until the end. If Ciel hasn’t grown at all they may really want to take him to a doctor because either he’s got some genetic issue or they’re not feeding him well enough. As for the girl proportions are Ciel’s hips even drawn that wide? I’m being sensible about this here because I’ve been examining a piece of official Trinity Blood art that gives one of the male characters a slim waist, wide hips and a round arse. In fact I think there’s just some artist at GONZO who can’t ever draw two characters next to each other without one having a male template and the other being sexy female by way of proportions.

Mad World is my ultimate Ken and Kaoru song, although that would be a little confusing to most people in the WK fandom. Puddle of Mudd's "Think" always make me think of (post-traumatic) Ken; Nickleback's "Leader of Men" makes me think of Schuldig (and Crawford and Ken) for very obvious reasons. None of the others get songs!

(Can't link to stuff whilst using OpenID)

    Williamgenkischuldich on 16th December 2009 11:11 (UTC)
Very few 'mainstream' songs make me think of particular characters. I suppose the one that comes closest is "My Way" by (I think) Limp Bizkit (<-- had to Google for the spelling!).
    ext_109169 on 16th December 2009 22:28 (UTC)
I can find Ken almost anywhere - and the Leader of Men video has always been totally begging for a WK remake (if only I could find that lost footage of Schuldig being hosed down and Farf on bass)!
