Speaking of fic, need to start up Weiss Day again. Anyone wanting to make suggestions, make them now. I'm going to write up a sign-up post tomorrow.

For New Year, some of us went to hinoai's apartment, where we made fizzy apple juice and watched Shrek 2. :P Then we walked from her place to the nearest station on the Chuo line at 4am.
And we went to Princess Heart for dilettantka's birthday. Everything was pink and sparkly. There were chandeliers, giant mirrors, maids in pink, plaster deer heads(?) and cocktails served in glass slippers. We sang Happy Birthday to "Princess Eda" and there were hearts and everything in the food. I dunno who was there ironically and who wasn't, but it was fun.
Recently, I went to see Avatar in 3D and I really liked it (although the Japanese subs were clearly a rush job and I had to rely on them to understand when characters spoke the Na'vi language). When many SF movies are about evil aliens invading Earth for spurious reasons, Avatar manages to turn that around and make humans the evil invaders. And the 3D was awesome.
So it's funny that outside the cinema, I can see posters featuring the banner from the top of this Coca Cola page (warning: also has video embedded). The two main characters are on the Na'vi world, looking up at this giant bottle of Coke.
I also saw Layton Kyouju to Eien no Utahime (Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva), which was also fantastic, although the animation didn't match up to Avatar. I went into it knowing almost nothing about the Layton games series and was still able to enjoy it. They blended 3D animation expertly into 2D and the renditions of London landmarks were fabulous. The soundtrack was also good (I don't think it's a spoiler to say that there was singing?) and my favourite characters were Clamp Growski (Watabe Atsurou) and De Scole (Otsuka Houchuu).
Remember I talked about an anime called "Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku"? They uploaded the first episode onto YouTube to promote the DVD release. I'm a bit disappointed where they started it, since they've chosen the weakest point... and the most offensive. Also, although his appearance is just seconds long, I think Tobita Nobuo will be hilarious when Bush's arc turns up. That laugh is so wrong. Of course, Fukuyama Jun is awesome too.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHfBmvcAkY0 (NSFW)
(Also? Margaret Thatcher turns up in the latest scanlation...)

Finally, I went and bought some new year fukubukuro, which are mystery bags that you buy for a fixed price that may or may not have what you want inside, but will always exceed that price in value. I went to Black Peace For Men and Alice And The Pirates. Inside each bag was a coordinated set of clothes, one featuring a tailcoat and the other a waistcoat. I couldn't have asked for a more appropriate selection. The only hitch was that the BPN trousers don't fit, but they seem to have have been designed for Tolkiensien elves anyway.
Victorian-style clothes are on their way out now. It's not that the interest in butlers and Victoriana has subsided, merely that people have decided that they want the next new thing. Lucky me. :)
