I didn't mention this previously, but I just got back from Sendai (in Miyagi Prefecture), which is famous for being the home of Kritiker's Flower Arranging School. Also something to do with the three famous views of Japan... Matsushima something something...

I kid, I kid. There will be a huge blog post on SpamFromJapan.com eventually. This week? Could it really be? Almost everything about the trip was fantastic and Sendai is a great city.

Lol. I've never been to Sendai, which might be why its mention always makes me think of Kritiker first. X) Looking forward to your post!

And thanks for the link...will have to check it out. (I've only recently learned about the term "trap" and it's totally made me go WTF...)

The first thing you should know about Sendai is that it has an awesome Gundam bar. :) But I never saw any flower-arranging schools. In fact, Sendai is more modern than I'd been told.

Thank you so much for that -- I had entirely forgotten that I had planned to stalk reichsfreiherr's LJ for an essay. too...cowed to friend, I suppose

If you don't mind me asking, how many years have you studied Japanese for? It's just...I've studied it for, well, this year would be my 5th year, and I don't know, I still feel like I have so much to learn and I'm never going to get there.

You should friend him. He's not that scary. :)

It's difficult to say how long I've been learning. I took private lessons while attending university, but we spoke in English mostly and I never developed the confidence to speak on my own. I did learn hiragana and katakana during that time and I knew them both before I came to Japan. So... about 4-5 years, I guess.

Really, my Japanese is terrible though. My communication skills and circumlocution let me explain myself far beyond what my grasp of grammar should allow. My sentences would probably make a JLPT4 blush, but I can make people understand pretty complicated stuff.

I’ll have you know that I’m the scariest Narsus I know. I’m also the only Narsus that I know, granted.

I'm looking forward to your Sendai post! It's the main place I'm excited about visiting in April :3

Well, you have to visit Matsushima (by boat) and I recommend a trip to the Gundam bar ZION.

I bet that's in the Sendai Chamber of Commerce's pamphlets, LOL.

Actually does anyone know why KT ALL HAIL used Sendai? Does he have family from there?

And is Matsushima the place with the black castle? :doesn't remember anymore:
Williamgenkischuldich on 25th February 2010 22:06 (UTC)
At a guess, I would imagine it's a combination of being a city close to Tokyo famed for both it's traditions and scenes of natural beauty. Definitely combines images of shogun and samurai while being a good place for assassination training.

...That sounded kind of plausible.

Matsumoto is the castle you're thinking of. Matsushima is famous for its mini islands and pine trees.
