No links for today, since I didn't see any interesting ones. I'm now heading to the Nippon Seinenkan to see starrbeam's dance performance. I haven't done anything else today and am not writing much right now. I'm too stuck on my query and synopsis, but I am trying to get past that. But I have been studying more Japanese, with the help of the Kanjibox app.

Day 04 - What's your favorite place that's not in any of the guidebooks/lists of places to visit?

Everything good usually makes it into the guidebooks eventually. I can remember when I first came here that Takeshita Doori was off the radar. As far as I know though, places like Mt Takao or Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum don't get enough attention. These are supposed "second tier" attractions that the average tourist doesn't have time for.

Probably my favourite traditional place is Goutokuji, which is the home of the original maneki-neko. It's peaceful, the priests are friendly, they sell cheap mikan and they love cats. I've never seen this in a guidebook.

One of my favourite non-traditional place is URGA, a livehouse in the famous "porn district" of Kabukicho. The monthly event "Machine Magic" is held here and doesn't appear in guidebooks, not even ones for goths! But it's a great, friendly place and some interesting bands perform here too, all under the theme of using machines/computers to make music.

...Although it doesn't always sound like music. :-)
